On March 30, Djibouti’s energy minister, Yonis Ali Guedi, received Russian ambassador Anton Kobyakov, with whom he discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations in the energy and mining sectors, with particular reference to cooperation in technology transfer for the oil and gas industry.

Another topic of discussion was cooperation in the field of personnel training in the energy sector, electronics and mechanical industry.

According to some regional press sources, however, Djibouti could circumvent the embargo imposed by the international community against Russia – approved also thanks to the vote of the Horn of Africa country – through cooperation with a company with mixed Russian-Jiboutian capital, the Djibouti Oil Company, which intends to purchase oil from Russia starting next April.
