The U.S. Senate voted Aug. 1 to nominate Lt. Gen. Michael E. Langley, the next commander of U.S. Africa Command, to the rank of four-star general.

Langley, a Marine Corps officer, had been nominated to lead U.S. Africa Command forces last June by President Joe Biden, and, during the nomination ceremony, the general had given a speech in which he advocated preventing the consolidation of Russia’s role on the African continent (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/michael-e-langley-becomes-first-black-four-star-marine-general-rcna41330).

General Langley will replace General Stephen Townsend, who is nearing retirement, at the command of US Africa Command.
