Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited Djibouti on September 14, where he was greeted upon arrival at the airport by President of the Republic Ismail Omar Guelleh and his wife Kadra Mahamoud Haid (https://www.adi.dj/index.php/site/Plus/9996).

The Ethiopian prime minister’s visit is being held as part of the 12th Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA), where Abiy Ahmed will attend and be honored with the award, and to strengthen political and economic relations with the neighboring Horn of Africa’s country. The Ethiopian delegation also includes the prime minister’s wife, Zinash Tayachew, Federal Parliament Speaker, Agegnehu Teshager, Peace Minister, Binalf Anduwalem, Prosperity Party Secretary General, Adem farah, and Finance Minister, Teklewold Atnafu.

The Ethiopian prime minister’s office did not release details of the visit or the overall length of the trip, while local press speculated that a meeting with the U.S. State Department’s special envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer (https://borkena.com/2022/09/14/ethiopian-pm-abiy-ahmed-on-an-official-visit-to-djibouti/), may be arranged during Abiy Ahmed’s stay in Djibouti.
